Vellian finally received her first assignment, a one-man patrol around the Outer City. Simple enough? Wrong, it was much large than Dourin Castle, and she was expected to cover every little street of it. Why? Because the criminal elements in the area had grown too common and powerful so that it directly endangered the popularity of the Royal Crown, so, starting the morning, guards would be sent on single patrols to scout out for any potential troublemakers. But Vellian was excited, and particularly keeping a watchful eye on the daily activities, striding with a torch in her left hand, her arming sword in the right, and the chainmail-and-leather armor on her body.
Time: About 6:00 PM, Nightfall. Weather: Clear, some clouds.

Shambling out of the tavern with a displeased groan, Atherius finished adjusting the straps around his helm. Nodding his head within it's steel confines, adjusting to it yet again, he began his small stroll through the area- aimless and without any real purpose to what he was doing. A night stroll always seemed to sooth the spirits as cleans the scent of booze off of one's breath; though the sounds he heard from beneath that reclusive helmet would've caused any drunkard to cleans their system through other means. The jingles of chain echoed through the area as the sun descended. The hint of a flame drawing closer caught Atherius' attention; though he'd thought it best not to pursue after it. Torch, chain-ringing, and a sun setting?
"Another patrol around, huh?"
Atherius sighed and shook his head. Walking a short distance so that he could set himself down on the Tavern's exterior walls, slouching his blade down onto his shoulder and placing his hands over it's flat-end, looking out into nothingness.

So far, the night was quiet. Which was good for Vellian, until out of the eye she spotted a man in platemail. Taking a short stop to examine the armor, she could only say in her mind that she was jealous. A professional mercenary, perhaps, which had armor of a much higher quality than she did, and not only that, his greatsword was of a superior quality than her arming sword. Sighing, she walked onwards, trying to make sure that she didn't catch his attention in a way that would incline him to follow her, still keeping up the patrol at a steady pace around the town, observing and making sure nothing would go wrong considering the thievery and fighting that went on. Even with how tranquil the night was, she knew that it was the most common time for troublemakers and bandits alike to stalk the darkened corners of the streets.

Turning to watch the women walk off, Atherius sighed and hauled himself up.
"Thought I knew every night patrol at this point."
Atherius said in a hushed tone. Turning back towards the entrance of the bar, he gave an utterly annoyed sigh as the rough-housing within continued on. Fists still being thrown and drunkards trying to sing in pitch with the entertainment of the growing night. Pushing away and walking off, Atherius approached a bewildered fellow who was currently digging around in the ground. Nudging the fellow with his boot before kneeling down and pointing towards the direction the women walked off to. Nodding slowly, he found his suspicions to be correct- it was the average sign of the usual patrol.
"Alright."
Pushing himself up, Atherius lugged his sword onto his shoulder and walked down the path, trailing at a distance from the she-guard.

Vellian looked around some more, keeping on her way. Although she spotted the movement of the armored man for a second, she thought he was simply going on his way. After a while, though, it would appear she had gone from vigilant to inattentive, focusing on getting the patrol done quickly rather than keeping an eye out for suspicious activities. "Hell and earth, they won't care if the difference is too slight." And she broke discipline, humming to herself rather merrily as she walked around the town, often giving a glance here, or there, or to the occasional peasant, but nothing else. That's when she thought she saw something, eyes glowing from an alleyway. She immediately darted after it, trying to figure out its origins...

Atherius noticed Vellian's sudden pace increase and running into the alleyway.
"What in--?"
Curiosity peaked, Atherius approached the crossing from the road to the alleyway. Staring through to where he saw the guardswomen run off to, he slowly gave two nods, cautiously moving behind the wall before he could be noticed, eavesdropping in silence; though he casually looked from side to side, nodding as passers-by when they came walking, playing off his guise of innocence.

Vellian made a mistake. A huge mistake. She charged into the alleyway, her torch hardly illuminating the figure ahead of her- and it was not human, but a beast. It quickly pounced, sending her sprawling onto the floor, leaving her dazed and confused, still keeping to the darkness as its four legged, almost feline body two times the size of a lion with a whiplike tail jumped onto a roof, letting out a bloodcurdling trumpet-like scream, drips of blood handing from its mouth, since it had unexpectedly cut itself on her blade when it knocked her over. After letting out the roar/scream, it jumped off into the wilderness. Vellian staggered to her feet and shook her head, only getting a short glance at the giant monster before it fled. She had a lot of questions to ask.

Atherius turned back to face the alleyway as he heard the crashing sound of chain, as well as the booming roar screeching out across the village at this point. With the crushing sounds of the beast running off, Atherius narrowed his eyes to get a good view of what it -might- be; though amidst the veil of night, there was no true hope of ever discovering. Moving through the alleyway, he leaned down and offered Vellian a hand.
"I thought you where a patrol, not a beast-hunter."
His voice was soft, though that was caused by his night whispers- completely out of place as the ruckus from Vellian's endeavor caused an uproar and fearful wails from those who'd caught the mysterious beast running off.

Vellian, despite being dazed, took Aetherius' hand and grinned, despite her disoriented and sore state.
"Oh, I'm really not a beast hunter. Just.. happened to stumble upon it and.."
She motioned with her hands, waving them in the direction the beast had gone, before turning to Aetherius and realizing that it was the man in platemail next to the tavern. Her face turned to a smirk, still envious of the armor he had. She took the soft tone of voice as a sense of protection, assuming that this was no ordinary man- or even woman, with that.
"Well, I should go off and report this occurrence."
She grinned awkwardly at him, nodded, and started to walk off.

Walking down the street are two brothers that could not be more different from each other than Night and Day, as far as appearances. The First Fred is a tall and well muscled man of about eighteen with somewhat modest lengthed hair. Wearing a tunic with a leather curiass over it. Light night wear a blade on his hip. Blue eyes dancing in the torch light and blonde hair.
His brother is far more athletic than muscled, with short mop topped black hair, brown eyes, a pair of spectacles of all things. Wearing more Militia instead of Full Feudal army, Man at Arms like guard armor. Clearly a Militia man. And he's likewise on Patrol, lantern held in one hand. Round shield on his back, and spear on the other hand, lazily over his shoulder. Clearly the one is a more important military type and the other is regulated to the poor jobs like Night Patrol. But the brother isn't leaving him alone for all of it at least.
The Two rush to all the commotion the most fabulous fantasy fabio they've ever seen. The Two run over the Brother with the Blade Fred, Stands hands on his hip, The one with the spear, has his lantern clipped to his belt, spear in one hand round shield in the other. Frederick looks around. He speaks.
Frederick: "What happened here, where is the attacker?"

Atherius nodded his head as Vellian went to leave.
"Well then. I suppose I'm heading out on the hunt then."
Atherius turned towards where he last saw the beast rush off to. Staring down at the trail it had left from it's bleeding mouth, he began walking down the path. With his sword held up to his shoulder, both hands upon the hilt, Atherius began his hunt for the beast as the duo parted ways.
However, as he began walking, he halted himself and turned to face the newcomers. Shrugging his shoulders, he answered:
"A beast attacked the patrol. It ran off through the woods."
He gestured towards the region it sprinted off to with the pommel of the blade's hilt. After which, he began walking that way again, giving off an air of nonchalance of whether one of the two, or both, followed him to inquire further.

Vellian saw the other patrol approaching and looked at them, jerking in a thumb towards the bloody trail Aetherius was heading down.
"It was a large beast. Whip-like spear tail and feline appearance. Went that way."
She realized that, it would be best to join the man who had helped her up, as it would be a challenging task for anyone to complete alone. So, instead of actually reporting what happened, she walked down the bloody trail, hoping to meet up with the platemail stranger from earlier so that they could slay it together before it caused havoc against the village the next night.

Coming to a stop, a guise of trees covered and surrounded him as he looked studied his surroundings. Sighing, he brought his blade down towards the ground. Having found a nice stone to rest on, he leaned down and planted himself into a curled position, eyes twitching at the sounds that rushed through the woods like a predator on the hunt. Turning to face the way he'd come, he'd heard the peculiar sounds of chain jingling. Moving his hand cautiously towards his blade's hilt, he awaited them to come closer before any hostilities arose.

Vellian walked close to Aetherius and nodded, keeping her eyes on the man.
"We thought that it would take more than one to take it out."
She looked at the ground, kneeling. The grass was soaked with blood and it wound down into the forest, zig-zagging as it slowly became lighter and lighter. She pointed in the general direction of it.
"It went that way."
Though, it may not be the best of ideas to pursue the creature while it was night. The forest thickened the farther you went in, which could only spell trouble for the four. These thoughts bombarded Vellian right away, and she shook her head.
"Maybe we should wait until day. Get rest?"
She suggested this with a unsure tone of voice.

The Brothers hurry up, Frederick would go get real armor, but that takes time a monster could Escape. Palid, might not be his brother's phsyical brawn, but he no more lacks in heroism than his brother, if he's ultimatly just the shy bookworm of the two, who would one day dream of being rich enough to be a wizard. Frederick ever the charismatic of the two.
"Which way did the beast go friend?" Frederick asks.

Frederick looks, as (Darn posting delays). As Palid speaks, in a stammering mannerism.
"But... but... if... it gets away now whats to keep it from... returning into someone's house, before the break of day?"

Atherius looked up from beneath his guise and sighed.
"Fair point... Though, if we wait too long, we might lose it's trail."
Turning to face back towards where the blood-path lead. Chuckling softly, and with a shake of his head, Atherius pushed himself up. Releasing his grip from his sword as he felt the danger had passed. With the crunching of leafs and twigs breaking beneath his boots, the armored man went to face the newcomers.
"So, I'm presuming you'd like to start this as a royal-mannered greetings, yes? I am Atherius."

Frederick responds for the Brothers.
"I am Frederick and the Studious one is my Brother, Palid."

Vellian knew that, the only way to respond to the man was in the same fashion, stepping along the path and listening to the repetitive crunching of leaves as each person's boots would easily crush the brittle objects.
"My name is Vellian. I am a conscript working for the Crown."
She kept following Aetherius, probably because he could actually stand a decent-sized blow instead of her, and because he was probably, admittedly, more experienced than she was. His armor made her take that conclusion- still, of course, jealous of the steel.
